Looking a Gift Horse in the Mouth......
We noticed these fiberglass horses scatter throughout Germantown. The plain horses were given to local artists to be painted/decorated and then auctioned. I believe there were 25 but we could only find 11 around town.

Give me a home where the buffalo roam - well maybe they just graze. Shelby Farms is not too far from our house and on a warm day you can see the bison close to the access road.

This shot was taken within 30 minutes of a tornado passing through Cordova. I have no desire to chase storms so why is it that I am always the one closest to bad weather and Chuck, who would stand in the middle of it if he could, seems to be away. On this day the tornado dropped about a mile and a half from our home (as the crow flies). The wind had calmed so all the movement that you see is how objects were bent out of shape and then frozen in place. The tornado ripped the corner off of Kohls department store off to the left hand side of this picture. It continued across the street and just beyond into a neighborhood where it destroyed some 50 homes. I was home sick that day when I heard the tornado sirens. I called Chuck to warn him that he might encounter rough weather on his commute home from work - never thinking that I was hearing SIRENS! I could hear the wind roaring just like a jet as I stood by the front window and watched - the huge plate glass window! Chuck made me stay on the phone as he drove. Taking shelter in the closet never even crossed my mind. I guess those years of living in Kansas never sunk in.

Presley

This little dog has changed so much over the past 11 months. She will be 1 year old on September 19th. We lost our Punkin on September 11th, 2008 and we swore we would not get another dog. I'm glad that we are able to fill our hearts with both dogs. There are times when Presley will do something just like Punkin and we both look at each other and smile. We've never tried to teach Presley anything that Punkin did or knew how to do. Punkin would drop to the floor if you pointed at her and said "BANG" as if you just shot her. That was Punkin. That will never be Presley. We are discovering how intelligent she really is and how she stays so focused on us. She does some tricks that I never could have taught Punkin. She is so eager to please and the more you say 'good girl' the more she wants to perform. She has this thing about feet that we just can't understand. She loves to rub on your feet, steal your socks and she is know to carry one of your shoes if she can get to them. All bad habits! We are trying to break the bad habits by introducing or reinforcing the good ones. It ain't easy!! She hates paper towels and will kill one if she can get hold of it. If she thinks you are not looking she will try to steal it out of your hand -ooh she is so bad! But very late in the evening, once the energy has drained, she is a loving little dog whose little face smiles at you when she looks up. I love that smile.
